As I'm developing an e-mail Bible study on the Life of Elijah, I decided to paint him. This is my adaptation of a mid-19th century Russian icon of Elijah in the collection of Chapman College painted on a wood panel. My version is on hot press paper, designed to look like a stained glass window. Of course, the Orthodox icon tradition doesn't use stained glass, but I thought it wouid be fun. It's a lot more colorful than my model, that's for sure, but retains the subdued countenance that most icons possess. 220211. Watercolor and ink on hot press paper, 10" x 14". |
